Childress Engineering Services Helps Park Place Lexus Bring Its Luxury Vision to Clients in New Plano Location
Engineering and Architecture Firm Has Partnered With High-End Luxury Dealership to Open New High Tech Campus
(firmenpresse) - RICHARDSON, TX -- (Marketwired) -- 12/10/13 -- , Inc. in partnership with has helped expand the dealership's facilities. CES participated in the design and engineering of its new multi-million dollar campus. Park Place Lexus, originally located off Preston Road, moved its twenty-one year old dealership to Spring Creek Parkway and North Dallas Tollway. The luxury car dealership decided to relocate and enlarge their facilities after expanding the original facility fifteen times in just two decades. The 21.5 acre, 170,000 square foot dealership can be seen by commuters on the busy southbound side of the Dallas North Tollway.
Childress Engineering Services' (CES) role in the design of the building was engineering a three hundred foot long curtain wall of floating glass panels and curved canopies along the front of the building. The project presented a unique challenge because Childress needed to create a structural support system for the glass, while maintaining the building's overall feeling of elegance and luxury. The design of the required specially manufactured extra thick glass panels and a thicker than usual laminated glass system.
Childress specifically engineered the canopy to cantilever out from the building front. This engineering feat was achieved by designing outrigger beams extending from the building to sufficiently support the weight of the canopy . In addition, point connections attach the glass to the outrigger beams. This point connection is designed to give the glass the illusion of floating above the steel. The entire construction of the building took only five months to complete and was finished in late summer of 2013. During its construction, more than one hundred workers were employed to build the facility.
Gary Keith, Childress' project manager of the Park Place Lexus assignment, said,
