Announcing the First Annual PrivCo Prize for Excellence in Business Librarianship
(firmenpresse) - NEW YORK, NY -- (Marketwired) -- 12/10/13 -- PrivCo is excited to announce the award of its first annual PrivCo Prize for Excellence in Business Librarianship. This year's winner is Ray Cruitt, Business Librarian at Enoch Pratt Free Library in Baltimore, MD. The PrivCo Prize for Excellence in Business Librarianship is awarded annually to the librarian who best embodies the core values of the profession based on recommendations by a panel of leading industry and academic business librarians.
Winners receive cash prizes, with first place receiving $2,500. Nominations for next year's PrivCo Prize are now open and can be submitted here:

Ray Cruitt particularly impressed the committee because "his involvement with the local community is exemplary" by "'franchising' his services by training other librarians. His workshops on financial literacy and economic development stood out as crucial in these times."
On the PrivCo Prize
PrivCo's Judging Panel consisted of three highly respected business librarians: Michael Oppenheim of UCLA, Suzanne Bell of the University of Rochester and Agnes Mattis of Skadden, Arps. The committee used evaluation criteria that resonated with the librarian's mission:
1) Engagement: maximizing community-wide impact
2) Innovation: using technology and social media creatively to deliver better service
3) Education: teaching stakeholders how to use resources effectively
The panel chairperson, Michael Oppenheim, explained the importance: "If business librarians are not showing the value of our tools, we are doing a disservice to our community. Business librarians can actually make a difference in people's lives, in the sense of career research, keeping up or doing better after getting the job, and in particular by helping start-ups, entrepreneurs and small businesses."
