ID: 1289761

(firmenpresse) - SAN DIEGO, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 12/10/13 -- National University, the second-largest private, nonprofit university in California, has been named the top college in the state for teacher education by The College Database in its "Top Colleges in California: Shaping the Next Generation" list, The College Database and National University announced today.

The College Database is the most current and comprehensive source for U.S. college and university data in the state for teacher education. The new list highlights the post-secondary institutions in the state that produced the most education graduates during the 2012 school year.

"This ranking reinforces National University's leadership position in teacher education in the state of California," said Dr. Don Chu, Dean of National University's School of Education. "For the past 13 years, we have prepared more credentialed teachers than any other single institution of higher education in California and that speaks volumes to the dedication of our faculty and staff."

"Many colleges and universities have tremendous teacher education programs," said Doug Jones, founder and CEO of The College Database. "But which ones are producing the most young educators today? We wanted to identify the colleges making the largest impact on our students."

The College Database used the following methodology to identify the top colleges shaping the next generation:

Must be fully accredited

4-year colleges only

Public or private, not-for-profit colleges only

No for-profit schools

U.S. colleges only

Minimum of 10 grads from education or teaching programs in 2012

National University's School of Education is unrivaled when it comes to not only teacher education and credential programs, but educators in the workplace making a difference in nurturing today's youth and tomorrow's leaders. National University holds teaching contracts with nearly 1,000 California school districts, meaning National's graduates are shaping the lives of thousands of students each day. In fact, of the 16 California schools named as National Blue Ribbon Schools for 2013, three were headed by principals who are National University alumni.
