(firmenpresse) - DINSMORE, SASKATCHEWAN -- (Marketwired) -- 11/28/13 -- Today, the Honourable Michelle Rempel, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, highlighted 16 projects that received federal funding for upgrades to community infrastructure across southwestern Saskatchewan over the past year.

"I am proud to see so many Saskatchewan families and communities benefit from the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund," said Minister Rempel. "Our Government's investments are helping to support job creation, boost economic activity, and create modern, safe and accessible community infrastructure facilities that will be enjoyed for many years to come."

Federal funding of $255,430 supported improvements to a number of sporting, cultural and community centres, as well as other public facilities in the Cypress Hills-Grasslands region. The investments will rehabilitate and improve existing community infrastructure in southwest Saskatchewan, providing broad-based benefits to local communities.

In Economic Action Plan 2012, the Harper Government announced further support to help communities across the country modernize their infrastructure. Our Government committed $150 million over two years for the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund. The Fund supports projects that look to improve existing community infrastructure accessible for use by the public, such as community centres, recreational buildings, local arenas, cultural and other community facilities.

Since 2006, the Harper Government, through WD, has invested in job-creating small- and medium-sized businesses, aerospace, marine and defence industries, and supported innovative entrepreneurs in pursuing emerging markets. By continuing to promote new economic opportunities, WD is helping to create jobs, economic growth, and long-term prosperity.
