VIA Motors Unveils Solar Powered Truck at LA Auto Show
(firmenpresse) - LOS ANGELES, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 11/27/13 -- thrilled truck owners at the this week with the unveiling of a solar panel bed cover option called the SölTRUX for VIA's extended range electric pick up trucks. Truck owners often purchase an accessory sometimes referred to as a "tonneau top" to cover and secure the cargo in the bed of a Pick Up truck. VIA's solar bed cover integrates high capacity solar panels which plug into VIA's proprietary power train and charging technology allowing the panels to charge the truck when parked or driving. VIA's SölTRUX™ solar panel bed cover can add up to 5 to 10 miles of additional electric range on long sunny days, depending on panel capacity and the availability of the sun.
Unlike solar options previously contemplated for smaller cars that can often only generate enough power to run small accessories, the large full size panels in VIA's solar bed cover for a Pick Up truck can provide enough power to charge the main batteries and add significant additional range or power for jobsite work tools.
"This much solar charging really wasn't available until we electrified the pick up truck, which offers enough real estate to accommodate full-size, high-capacity panels," said David West, Chief Marketing Officer for VIA Motors who lead the development of the product. "This option makes owning an electric truck even more attractive today because it can charge while parked outside almost anywhere," West concluded.
VIA plans to offer this unique after-market solar option for its electrified version of the Chevy Silverado called the VIA VTRUX, through participating dealers after the production launch of its 2014 electric truck in mid 2014. VIA is also developing a similar option for its passenger and cargo vans.
