Media Advisory: Governor General to Present the 2013 Literary Awards
(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwired) -- 11/26/13 -- His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, accompanied by his wife, Her Excellency Sharon Johnston, will present the 2013 Governor General's Literary Awards during a ceremony at Rideau Hall, on Thursday, November 28, 2013, at 6 p.m.
His Excellency will honour 14 laureates at the 77th edition of the Governor General's Literary Awards, in the English and French categories of fiction, poetry, drama, non-fiction, children's literature (text and illustration) and translation. About the Governor General's Literary Awards
The Governor General's Literary Awards, administered by the Canada Council for the Arts, are Canada's oldest and most prestigious awards for English- and French-language Canadian literature. They were established by former Governor General, Lord Tweedsmuir (also known as John Buchan, author of The Thirty-Nine Steps). The first awards honoured books published in 1936. The Awards have since evolved into Canada's pre-eminent national literary awards. In addition to the monetary award, each laureate receives a framed copy of their winning book.
Members of the media wishing to cover the ceremony are asked to confirm their attendance in advance with the Rideau Hall Press Office, and should arrive at the Princess Anne Entrance no later than 5:45 p.m.
