(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwired) -- 11/25/13 -- The Honourable Rob Nicholson, P.C., Q.C., M.P. for Niagara Falls, Minister of National Defence, issued the following statement today regarding two Canadian Armed Forces members who are participating in the Walking With the Wounded South Pole Allied Challenge:

"On behalf of the Government of Canada, the Department of National Defence, and the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF), I would like to express how proud and supportive I am of Master Corporal Chris Downey and Corporal Alexandre Beaudin D'Anjou, who are representing Canada as part of Team Soldier On in a historical expedition: The South Pole Allied Challenge. The challenge will see three teams of ill and injured serving and former military personnel from around the world race to the geographic South Pole. Through their participation, they remind Canadians that our ill and injured servicemen and women remain capable of accomplishing extraordinary endeavours. Their perseverance continues to be an inspiration for all of us.

"The Government of Canada continues to be committed to the recovery, rehabilitation and reintegration of ill and injured members of the CAF through programs such as Soldier On. As Minister of National Defence, I am extremely impressed by the level of resolve, professionalism and preparedness of these two Soldier On program members. Together, with programs like Soldier On, we continue to improve how we care for our own.

"I would like to encourage our friends at the Walking With the Wounded organization in the United Kingdom and our Allied participants. I would also like to extend a special thank you to His Royal Highness Prince Harry for taking on the role as patron and bringing further awareness of this expedition to the world. Best of luck to all participants!"
