A Maltese company can trade and provide services, consultancy and mediation, while internationally enjoying a net 5% or lower effective tax rate, after distributing dividends to shareholders and applying refunds. Malta company tax is fully credited to shareholders on the distribution of profits and, depending upon the business activity from which the profit has been generated, recipients of dividend income may become entitled to refunds of the company tax paid. These refunds can reduce the effective tax burden on distributed profits to between 5/7 and 7/7 or 0% and 10%.
