Harper Government Supports the Growth of the Unmanned Vehicle Systems Industry
(firmenpresse) - VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA -- (Marketwired) -- 11/14/13 -- Today, Cathy McLeod, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Labour and for Western Economic Diversification and Member of Parliament for Kamloops-Thompson-Cariboo, on behalf of the Honourable Michelle Rempel, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced the Harper Government's support for the 2013 Unmanned Systems Canada Annual Conference.
"The UVS sector is a significant source of high-quality, well-paying jobs, particularly as the benefits of unmanned systems are explored in new and innovative ways," said Parliamentary Secretary McLeod. "I am pleased that we are supporting this conference as it aligns with our top priority - promoting jobs, growth and long-term prosperity."
The Harper Government is investing $40,600 to support the delivery of the conference. This three-day event will feature a series of presentations, workshops and exhibitions that highlight unmanned vehicle systems (UVS) and showcase the growing uses of UVS technology in commercial and civil applications.
The conference will also provide valuable opportunities for western Canadian UVS companies to establish new relationships and develop new business ventures.
"Unmanned Systems Canada's annual conference is Canada's premiere event to showcase accomplishments in our UVS community," said Eric Edwards, Chairman, Unmanned Systems Canada. "The conference is truly a forum where academia, manufactures, innovators, investors, and users meet to network and share ideas. I would like to formally acknowledge the significant contribution made by Western Economic Diversification Canada. The support from WD is a major factor in the success of this event."
Since 2006, the Harper Government, through WD, has invested in job-creating small- and medium-sized businesses, aerospace, marine and defence industries, and supported innovative entrepreneurs in pursuing emerging markets. By continuing to promote new economic opportunities, WD is helping to create jobs, economic growth, and long-term prosperity.
