Minister Blaney Announces Appointments to the Parole Board of Canada

(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwired) -- 11/13/13 -- The Honourable Steven Blaney, Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, today announced two appointments and one reappointment to the Parole Board of Canada.

"As an independent administrative tribunal, the Parole Board of Canada makes conditional release, record suspension and clemency decisions that contribute to the protection of society," said Minister Blaney. "I congratulate these highly qualified and experienced individuals as they contribute to the safety of our communities and a strong corrections system."

Prairies Region

Lorrie Vacing of Sherwood Park, Alberta, is reappointed as a full-time member. She was first appointed to the Board as a full-time member in 2009. She has vast experience in the area of victims' issues. From 2006 until her appointment to the Board, she was a Victims' Program Coordinator at the Alberta Solicitor General and Public Security Department and was the Director of the Child Advocacy Program for the Zebra Child Protection Centre Society in Edmonton. Ms. Vacing worked for the Edmonton Police Volunteer Victim Service and was awarded the Edmonton Police Service Favourable Notice for developing a court preparation program.

Pacific Region

Laura Hall, of Delta, British Columbia, is appointed as a full-time member. She was first appointed to the Board as a part-time member in 2010, and reappointed in June 2013. Ms. Hall has 16 years of experience working for the Family Services of Greater Vancouver, a community-based not-for-profit organization specializing in victims' services, and providing social services to children, youth, adults, and families across British Columbia's lower mainland. Prior to her appointment to the Board, she was the Community Services Manager.

Ian F.A. Mackenzie of Abbotsford, British Columbia, is appointed as a full-time member. He was first appointed to the Board as a part-time member in 2009, and reappointed in February 2012. With 32 years' experience in municipal policing with the Abbotsford Police Department and the Vancouver Police Department, Mr. Mackenzie also teaches criminal law, criminal procedure and civil liberties courses at the School of Criminology and Criminal Justice at the University of the Fraser Valley in B.C. Mr. Mackenzie is a Member of the Order of Merit of the Police Forces.
