WorldCare Clinical Publishes Research Manuscript Demonstrating How a Central Image Review Can Reduce Overall Clinical Trial Costs

ID: 1282179

Decreasing Image Interpretation Variability in Cancer Trials Can Result in Decreased Trial Sample Size, Thus Driving a Decrease in Trial Cost

(firmenpresse) - BOSTON, MA -- (Marketwired) -- 11/12/13 -- WorldCare Clinical (WCC), a leading CRO focused on maximizing the precision and accuracy of independent assessments in clinical trials, has in collaboration with Dr. Fenghai Duan, assistant professor at the Department of Biostatistics and Center for Statistical Science at Brown University, published a entitled "A Simulation Study to Evaluate Accuracy and Precision of Blinded Independent Central Reviews of Progression-free Survival in Cancer Clinical Trials" in the Journal of Clinical Trials.

"We have always known that controlling imaging assessment variability through the use of a blinded independent central review (BICR) process was important, but what we didn't understand until now was what degree of changes in precision and/or accuracy would be needed to impact a trial. The robust findings we obtained in a standard progression free survival cancer model suggest that small changes in precision and/or accuracy can have a profound impact on a trial," stated the lead author of the article, WCC President Dr. Richard Walovitch.

WCC believes that the results from its study can be extrapolated to other imaging studies as well as any BICR with subjective clinical data. "Our approach is the same for all BICRs -- we leverage our relationship with Harvard and other leading teaching hospitals, allowing us to draw from the best subspecialty-trained, board-certified practicing physicians who are then trained by WCC under a uniform system to maximize the precision and accuracy of data interpretation," stated Walovitch.

WorldCare Clinical (WCC) is a leading imaging CRO that employs clinical expertise, innovative technology and operational excellence to maximize the precision and accuracy of a blinded independent central review (BICR) of clinical trial data. Originally founded in 1992 by the Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) Department of Radiology, WCC has evolved as an independent company while maintaining a strategic relationship with MGH.
