is pleased to announce that the recipient of the 21st CEO Award of Excellence in Public Relations is John E. Betts, President and Chief Executive Officer, McDonald's Restaurants of Canada.

Mr. Betts' work in defining the company's vision and communicating it with impact across Canada has been a demonstration of how communications can be a game changer in business strategy and business results. Since assuming his current role at the helm of McDonald's Canada in 2008, the company has achieved significant increases in annual sales and guest counts, has undertaken a comprehensive restaurant reimaging program, and has brought new and relevant menu enhancements to Canada including McCafe and the Signature McWrap.

Prior to his appointment as President & CEO of McDonald's Canada, Mr. Betts held various positions with McDonald's throughout the United States and around the world. A 43-year veteran of the McDonald's system, he began his career with McDonald's in 1970 as restaurant Crew in Southampton, New York. John lives in Toronto with his wife Bridget and their two children.

Created in 1991, the recognizes communications excellence and advocates that a successful CEO must be an excellent communicator who can express a clear mission and shared values with a broad range of stakeholders.

Past Award recipients include Sheldon Levy, Ryerson University, Mr. Jim Leech, Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan, Robert Deluce, Porter Airlines, Galen G. Weston, Loblaw Companies, Frances Lankin, United Way of Greater Toronto, Michael Budman and Don Green of Roots Canada, and Piers Handling of the Toronto International Film Festival.

For the first time in the Award's history, there have been two winners of this prestigious award from the same organization in different years. CPRS Toronto was pleased to award the honour to George Cohon, Founder of McDonald's Restaurants of Canada in 1995.





The CPRS Toronto award, presented annually, is determined by a selection committee comprised of the Society's past presidents. Members are encouraged to submit nominations throughout the year.
