It was a night to celebrate Olympic athletes, great British Columbia wines, and a group of the province's most talented chefs. Competing against nine of his fellow colleagues, Sonora Resort is proud that Executive Chef Terry Pichor achieved Bronze at the Gold Medal Plates in Victoria on November 7, 2013.
His deserving dish - Thiessen Farms duck, foie gras, and butternut squash ravioli with pine mushrooms, black garlic granola, and natural jus - was paired with Foxtrot Vineyard's 2010 Pinot Noir.
"Terry has been cooking at Sonora Resort for the past five years and this was a first invitation for Terry to participate in Gold Medal Plates; we are extremely proud of his bronze finish," says Sean Ross, General Manager of Sonora Resort, a Relais & Chateaux property. "As executive chef, Terry continually surprises our team and guests from all over the world. His culinary talent and passion for food has been noted by top food critics as the best in B.C."
The Gold Medal Plates is the ultimate celebration of Canadian Excellence in cuisine, wine, the arts and athletic achievement. Celebrated in eleven cities across Canada in 2013, Gold Medal Plates features the premier chefs in each city in a competition to crown a gold, silver and bronze medal culinary team in each city, and subsequently nation-wide at the Canadian Culinary Championships. This year, the Gold Medal Plates were held in Victoria for the first time.
