Jenoptik delivers power systems for Munich airport

ID: 1281103

In future, the Defense&Civil Systems division of Jenoptik will provide ground power to airplanes at the new satellite of Munich airport's terminal 2

(PresseBox) - Schneider Electric GmbH commissioned Jenoptik's Defense & Civil systems division with delivery of ground power supply systems at Munich airport. The contract is valued in the mid single-digit million euro range. Delivery will be completed in the second half of 2014.
The order for the Jenoptik division at the Altenstadt location includes the manufacturing and delivery of components for two stationary 400-Hertz ground power supply systems: frequency converters, switching equipment and step-down transformers. Frequency inverter systems convert the frequency of the public power grid into the frequency commonly used for airplanes. Step-down transformers are used to reduce the generated high voltage for the airplane's onboard power system.
These components will be used in the 400-Hertz systems of the future terminal 2 satellite at Munich airport. This building extension is scheduled to start operation in 2015; the topping-out ceremony took place in September 2013.
"The order for Munich airport demonstrates again that we are recognized as a reliable specialist for power supply also in civil markets thanks to our high-power energy systems", says Michael Mertin, CEO of JENOPTIK AG.
Similar Jenoptik power systems are already in operation in terminal 1 and 2 of Munich airport. Jenoptik systems also provide ground power at Warsaw's airport and at the first A380 maintenance hangar in Frankfurt/Main. In 2010, Jenoptik received a large order for the airport infrastructure of a country in the Middle East.

As an integrated optoelectronics group, Jenoptik operates in the five divisions Lasers & Material Processing, Optical Systems, Industrial Metrology, Traffic Solutions and Defense & Civil Systems. Its customers around the world mainly include companies in the semiconductor and semiconductor equipment manufacturing industry, automotive and automotive supplier industry, medical technology, security and defense technology as well as the aviation industry.

The Defense & Civil Systems division develops, produces and distributes mechatronic and sensor systems for civil and military applications. The portfolio ranges from individual assemblies, which customers then integrate into their systems, through to complete systems and end products. The division's areas of competence are energy systems, optical sensor systems, stabilization systems, aviation subsystems and radomes & composites.
Among others, the division is specialized on energy systems for military and civil vehicle, rail and aircraft equipment. The product portfolio also includes converters for trams as well as auxiliary and hybrid power units for road and railway vehicles.
