Canadian Armed Forces and Royal Canadian Mounted Police Members to Participate in Remembrance Day Sentry Program

ID: 1280763

(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwired) -- 11/07/13 -- From November 7 to 11, 2013, six Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) members and a member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) will participate in the Remembrance Day Sentry Program in Ottawa.

Created in 1998, this program recognizes outstanding Regular and Reserve Force sailors, soldiers, airmen and airwomen of the CAF, and a member of the RCMP, for their dedication, professionalism and performance. The program participants will all play important roles in the official national Remembrance Day ceremony.

"The men and women of the CAF and the RCMP have shown a strong commitment to their country through their tireless efforts both at home and abroad," said the Honourable Rob Nicholson, Minister of National Defence. "The selection of these members for the Remembrance Day Sentry Program is one way to recognize them for their dedication."

Members are nominated by their respective services, with selections based on several factors, including deployment experience, community involvement, physical fitness, and deportment.

"The men and women who participate in the Sentry Program are carefully chosen," said General Tom Lawson, Chief of the Defence Staff. "Their assignment is not easy, but it is also not a burden - it is an honour, and a privilege. They can be proud to have been selected for this role, just as we are proud of them."

The members selected for this year's Remembrance Day Sentry Program are: Sergeant Kelly Olsen, Sentry Commander; Leading Seaman Amber L. Oldland, Royal Canadian Navy Sentry; Corporal Tyler Falt, Canadian Army Sentry; Corporal Huy Q. Dang, Royal Canadian Air Force Sentry; Constable Karl Delisle, RCMP Sentry; Captain Shellie Sullivan, Nursing Officer; and Corporal Shawn M. Mulcahy, Special Guest of the Chief of the Defence Staff.

The seven members will participate in various activities, including the Royal Canadian Legion Dominion President's Luncheon, a visit to Parliament Hill, and the Silver Cross Mother's Luncheon.
