Minister Oliver Visits Washington, D.C., to Encourage Cooperation on Energy and Environment
(firmenpresse) - WASHINGTON, DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA -- (Marketwired) -- 11/06/13 -- The Honourable Joe Oliver, Canada's Minister of Natural Resources, today visits Washington, D.C., to encourage enhanced cooperation on energy and the environment. During his sixth visit to Washington, D.C, Minister Oliver is meeting with senior government officials and industry stakeholders and participating in the Carbon Sequestration Leadership Forum.
"Enhancing our bilateral energy collaboration will strengthen economic opportunity, energy security and environmental responsibility," said Minister Oliver. "We are working to expand and diversify our energy markets while investing in innovation and reducing the environmental footprint of our energy supply, distribution and use."

The Canada-United States energy relationship is the single most important bilateral energy relationship in the world. During their first bilateral meeting in September, Minister Oliver and Secretary Moniz agreed to four main areas of cooperation between Canada and the United States including:
Minister Oliver and Secretary Moniz will also make brief remarks at a joint reception hosted at the Canadian Embassy during the Carbon Sequestration Leadership Forum. Canada is recognized by the International Energy Agency (IEA) as an international leader in advancing CCS projects.
During his visit, Minister Oliver is also highlighting the importance of Keystone XL in the context of energy security, jobs and the environment.
"The approval of Keystone XL would enhance energy security, create thousands of jobs and support the environment," said Minister Oliver. "Approval would displace oil from Venezuela which has repeatedly threatened to cut off its supply to the United States and has the same or higher emissions as the oil sands, with less stringent regulations."
