ID: 1278597

(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwired) -- 11/01/13 -- The Honourable Steven Blaney, Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, made the following statement today after Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) announced the apprehensions of Samora Moises Edwards and Josef Kanka, as well as the removal of Bartolo Camargo Galaviz. Each had appeared on the "Wanted by the CBSA" list.

"I applaud the efforts of CBSA and law enforcement to locate and remove those who hide in this country illegally. Our government has no tolerance for those who disregard Canadian law and abuse our generous immigration system. We are committed to supporting law enforcement officers who work tirelessly to keep our streets and communities safe."

On October 9th, Canada Border Services Agency successfully removed the 40th individual who appeared on "Wanted by the CBSA" list. Bartolo Camargo Galaviz is inadmissible to Canada for serious criminality having been convicted of an offence outside of Canada that, if committed in Canada, would constitute a Canadian offence.

Samora Moises Edwards was located by CBSA following his arrest on other matters on October 1st. Mr. Edwards is inadmissible to Canada for serious criminality for being convicted of trafficking in a controlled substance.

Josef Kanka was located by CBSA following his arrest on other matters on October 23rd. Mr. Kanka is inadmissible to Canada for serious criminality for being convicted of possession of stolen property, attempted extortion, robbery and causing bodily harm with intent (firearm).

To date, as a result of the "Wanted by the CBSA" program, Canadians have assisted in locating 48 individuals in Canada, of which 40 have been removed. Additionally, nine other individuals were located abroad.
