Pharmics -- a Leading Supplier of Pharmaceutical Supplements -- Carries a Variety of Products That Can Help Reduce Risks During Pregnancy

(firmenpresse) - SALT LAKE CITY, UT -- (Marketwired) -- 10/29/13 -- Recently, a few studies conducted across the world have produced new results about the link between prenatal supplements and the occurrence of autism in young children. The studies, which took place in California and Norway, showed that mothers who took supplements containing Folic Acid during their pregnancy significantly lowered the risk of autism in their children. The CDC, along with many physicians recommends that women of childbearing age take some form of prenatal supplement. Pharmics provides products that contain vital nutrients during pregnancy, including prenatal vitamins with DHA and Folic acid and , ensuring that mom and baby get the nutritional support they need before, during and after pregnancy.

The study in Norway was the more intensive of the two, evaluating around 85,000 children born between 2002 and 2008. They followed the children for about six years, evaluating their health status and signs of autism. They also had each mother fill out a questionnaire about supplement use before, during and after pregnancy. Their final results showed that mothers who took prenatal vitamins resulted in about .10 of their children acquiring some form of autistic disorder. For mothers that didn't take any supplementation, the number was higher; rounding out at .21 percent.

The study indicates that prenatal vitamins used for three months before pregnancy, as well as pregnancy, may reduce the risk of developing autism. The study was published in the Journal of the American Medical Association along with the Journal Epidemiology. Ultimately, the findings showed that taking Folic Acid during pregnancy could reduce the risk of autism by up to 40 percent. Women commonly took as well as Folic Acid.

The California study questioned a large number of mothers, some with autistic children and some without. Inquiries were made about their supplement use before and during pregnancy. The results found that the mothers of the autistic children generally recalled taking less Folic Acid during the early stages of their pregnancy. This similar result to other current studies supports the idea that vitamins with Folic Acid can reduce the risk of autism in young children.
