Jil McIntosh won for an entertaining and informative article on child car seats and how to pick the right one as a child ages. The judges found the article took an important but well-worn topic and made it come to life through lively writing and fresh insights that spoke to a variety of audiences, from young families to grandparents. Ms. McIntosh is a previous recipient of the CAA Road Safety Journalism Award.
Gerry Malloy also received an honorary mention for his article on cognitive distraction, a growing area of concern and academic research that focuses on driving distractions caused by inattention. Judges said the article used a smooth and simple writing style to communicate some complicated information in an easy-to-understand way that brought home the importance of the topic.
