Canada's Leading Conference Venue Strengthens Market Position With New Culinary Program

The (MTCC), , announced today its three-year $29 million renovation is now complete. Revitalization elements for the premier facility included: an extensive and culinary upgrade, enhancements to the north building's meeting rooms and redesigned conference rooms in the south building to provide more flexible meeting spaces.

Kitchen renovation details

Working with the internationally renowned consulting firm William Caruso & Associates, the kitchen renovation plan has involved a complete overhaul and is expected to be fully realized by November 1.

"Culinary staff members are able to create restaurant-style recipes that they can produce with high quality consistently in high volumes because they now have the very best equipment and systems in place. Today, MTCC is most definitely a culinary leader in Canada."

From floor to ceiling, MTCC's has been renovated.

"Food is a key consideration when selecting an event venue," said Richard Willett, MTCC's vice president of Food and Beverage. "At the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, we understand that today's consumers have a much more sophisticated palette. Menus must be creative and paired with efficient service. Food is currency on the international stage and the MTCC wants every competitive edge in the marketplace."





Willett leads a team of 49 full, part time and casual culinarians including executive chef Angelo Fernandes, a pastry chef, executive sous chef, four sous chefs and 10 apprentices. The kitchen talent allows MTCC to create customized programs for each event. Locally sourced produce enriches the authentic taste of Ontario, wowing guests from around the world. A allows culinary staff to cook with the freshest ingredients, maximizing flavour in every dish.

The new wine list features Ontario wines, which pair perfectly with the local foods now being offered. "Sourcing and preparing locally grown foods is making a Renaissance that our clients have wholeheartedly embraced," said Willett. "The move to local is here to stay."

New meeting spaces

Two new contemporary spaces are now available in the south building: The Terrace (room 401) and Parkview (room 501) rooms. The Terrace features floor to ceiling east-facing windows and, as the name suggests, offers guests private access to an outdoor terrace. Parkview can be configured into two smaller rooms and also boasts floor to ceiling windows.

MTCC donates kitchen equipment to local charities

Each year the MTCC donates more than 25,000 pounds of food, equivalent to more than 9,300 meals.

The Toronto District School Board now has additional kitchen equipment to support its Student Nutrition Program. Fully functional ovens, refrigerators and cooking accessories were donated by MTCC as a way of giving back to the Greater Toronto Area community to ensure students in need receive supplementary nutritious breakfast, snack and lunch meals.
