Extra Mile Day Success Soars to 440 Mayors
(firmenpresse) - SACRAMENTO, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 10/24/13 -- Mayors from 440 cities representing all 50 states have declared on November 1. A growing national movement dedicated to encouraging individuals and organizations to "go the extra mile" in service and volunteerism, Extra Mile Day has attracted support from small towns to major cities. This year, mayors from North Pole, Alaska, to Philadelphia will make the extra-mile declaration.
At a time when many are demanding changes in service and opportunity, Extra Mile Day celebrates individuals and organizations that have chosen to create positive change in their communities by going the extra mile. Created in 2009 with twenty-three cities making the inaugural declaration, Extra Mile Day has continued to build momentum each year since.
Mayor William Laforet of Mahwah, New Jersey, is one of those supporting mayors. "There is something central to our community and that is our gift of going the extra mile. We have seen over and over again residents simply taking the time to help others and elevate worthy causes. It's what defines Mahwah and going the extra mile."
