Construction Writers Association Announces 2013 Journalism and Marketing/Communications Award Winners
(firmenpresse) - CHICAGO, IL -- (Marketwired) -- 10/22/13 -- The Construction Writers Association (CWA) announces the winners of the 2013 Journalism and Marketing/Communications Awards, all presented during the association's 55th Anniversary "CONNECTED" annual meeting and Grand Awards Dinner on Oct. 22.
"The outstanding caliber of entries in the CWA communications competition never ceases to amaze me," said Patti Flesher, director of communications at Portland Cement Association, who chairs the Awards Committee. "Just when I think I've seen the levels of excellence and creativity at their highest, a new bar is set once again by the professionals of this industry."
Independent communications professionals served as judges, with awards in six journalism categories and eight marketing and communications categories.
"Congratulations to all the 2013 winners," said CWA President Tina Grady Barbaccia, a freelance writer/editor/social media consultant. "We want to thank all the fine communicators who submitted their work to this important industry competition. Tonight has really been a celebration of the writing profession and top-shelf talent within the construction writing community."
was the winner of the Godfrey Award, which honors journalistic talent in a large body of work. The award is named after Ned Godfrey, past president of CWA. Abaffy was honored for "Sewage Treatment Innovation Promises Big Net-Energy Gain," "Oil Ignites Microboom," and "Out of Sight, Out of Mind."
, won the Boger Award for Blogs with his submission, "Considering Customer Service." The Boger Awards are named after Robert F. Boger, a CWA founding member and McGraw-Hill publisher.
won the Boger Award for Special Report with their co-authored, "Grid Rocked: Critical Infrastructure."
took first place in the Boger Editorial competition with his article, "Justice Denied in Sex-Harass Case."
also took home the Boger Award for Features with, "Bullying on the Job: Targets of Abuse."
The winner of the Boger Award for best Video was , for his entry titled, "Bauma 2013."
