Canada's Implementation of the Convention Against Torture on its Territory
(firmenpresse) - MONTREAL, QUEBEC -- (Marketwired) -- 10/22/13 -- Action by Christians for the Abolition of Torture (ACAT Canada) sent on October 22, the report to the Continuing Committee of Officials on Human Rights (CCOHR).
In this paper, we are particularly interested in identifying the causes and factors that can lead to acts prohibited by the Convention against Torture. We aim to enable a more effective action against torture. Without attempting a comprehensive study of the situation, we will focus on prevention of torture, rather than denunciation only. ACAT-Canada wishes to participate in the effort to improve compliance with the absolute ban, whatever the circumstances.
ACAT Canada has been following the evolution of the implementation of the Convention against Torture, Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment (CAT) by Canada on its territory.
The Continuing Committee of Officials on Human Rights (CCOHR) maintains consultation and collaboration among governments in Canada with respect to the domestic implementation of international human rights instruments to which Canada is a party.
ACAT Canada is affiliated with Federation internationales des ACAT (FiACAT) which acts a consultative organization to the United Nations.
