Project Lauded for Jobs Contributions as Local Economy Rebounds
(firmenpresse) - BELL GARDENS, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 10/22/13 -- Joining with area business leaders, community groups, hospitality and construction workers and elected officials, California Governor Edmund G. Brown, Jr. today lauded the launch of a new hotel construction project for The Bicycle Casino that promises to bring hundreds of new jobs to a region hard hit by the economic downturn.
"This is a wonderful and elegant investment in Bell Gardens, a special place that many more people will now come to know and appreciate," Governor Brown said.
The new Bicycle Casino Hotel will represent the first world-class luxury hotel in the mid-cities region of south Los Angeles County and will feature seven stories, 100-rooms, 15,000 square feet of event and meeting space, an outdoor pool deck and employ 300 people during its construction phase and 250 permanent hospitality jobs in city faced with 16.3 percent unemployment.
"The smaller cities throughout this part of Los Angeles County have really impacted by the recession," said State Senator Ricardo Lara (D-Long Beach). "But the $45 million investment being made here by private funds represents not only a new hotel, but also growth in related tourism and entertainment businesses giving a real boost to the area."
In addition to the increased job and economic activity and in partnership with local and state transportation officials, the hotel project will also include a traffic signalization component to four local intersections improving vehicle travel time through the heavily traveled Florence/Eastern intersection by up to 50 percent, significantly helping air quality. This will reduce gridlock and ensure a smoother flow of people, goods and services throughout the region.

"As an additional benefit, this property will help us provide even more substantial resources to our community and charitable foundation which supports a wide range of local projects and organizations."
Gov. Brown, Sen. Lara, Mr. Minaiy and Robert H. Carter, managing general partner for The Bicycle Casino, unveiled a rendering of the planned hotel at today's event.
The Casino Hotel development will create approximately 300 construction related jobs and 250 full-time hotel related jobs:
Capital investment over the next five years will be in excess of $45 million
Total of 117,907 square feet
Outdoor, 2nd floor swimming pool with cabanas and large deck
2nd floor event room connecting to pool deck
Spa and fitness center
Business and guest services area
Brewpub and restaurant
The completed project will offer the local business community more upscale meeting and event spaces
The Project Manager is Marina del Rey-based Brindle Development, LLC. The architect is Lee & Sakahara Architects AIA of Irvine, CA and Irvine-based R.D. Olson Construction Company, Inc. is the general contractor. The ground breaking is scheduled for November, 2013 with completion estimated by 2015.
