Canada's Chief of the Defence Staff Hosts NATO Supreme Allied Commander Transformation
(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwired) -- 10/18/13 -- The Chief of the Defence Staff, General Tom Lawson, hosted the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Supreme Allied Commander Transformation (SACT), General Jean-Paul Palomeros, for a two-day visit this week.
The aim of this visit was to exchange information and to discuss key NATO projects including the Connected Forces Initiative, and Smart Defence. These projects are intended to lead to greater efficiencies, and to reinforce gains in interoperability that have been achieved amongst allies as a result of recent NATO operations.
"I was extremely pleased to host General Palomeros for these important discussions," said General Lawson. "This visit provided us with a key opportunity to exchange information and to discuss ways to transform and develop the Alliance to face the challenges of tomorrow. This work is critical for enhancing our ability to work together with our allies, increasing our collective readiness and combat effectiveness."
Canada has been a member of NATO since it was founded in 1949. Since the end of the Cold War, NATO's members have maintained the principle of collective defence and have worked to extend cooperation to other regions of the world.
