Minister Oliver Concludes Successful Mission to Promote Energy Cooperation with South Korea and China
(firmenpresse) - BEIJING, CHINA -- (Marketwired) -- 10/18/13 -- The Honourable Joe Oliver, Canada's Minister of Natural Resources, today concluded his economic mission to China, where he reinforced Canada's role as a secure, responsible energy supplier and its commitment to energy market diversification.
"Strengthening cooperation with our valued trade partners helps create Canadian jobs and economic growth in every region across our country," said Minister Oliver.
Minister Oliver's successful visit supports the government's priority of strengthening relationships to increase opportunities for Canada's natural resource sectors. The Minister acknowledged the complementarity of interests between Canada, an ideal destination for further investment, and the Asia-Pacific's pressing need for energy resources. His activities included:
"Our Government is working hard internationally and at home to reach new markets for our natural resources," said Minister Oliver. "Canada is competing to meet our strategic imperative of diversifying our energy markets and strengthening our position as a global competitive exporter."
Minister Oliver also joined his Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, on the first day of his official visit to China, where he met with Li Keqiang, Premier of China, and Xi Jinping, President of China. Minister Oliver also witnessed the signing of two important Memorandums of Understanding with China: a framework agreement on sustainable energy development with the Province of Alberta and a commercial agreement with Bombardier.
