The firm hereby alerts the public to the fact that Governor Jerry Brown of California has recently signed several immigration-related bills into law, and these new laws could affect the lives of many people in the state.
Specifically, Reuters recently published an article that describes the different bills that were signed into law by Governor Brown, and a link to that article can be found . One such law now allows for illegal immigrants to obtain licenses to practice law in the state provided that they meet all of the other requirements met by licensed attorneys.
Examples of other new laws include those that prohibit law enforcement personnel from detaining illegal immigrants even if doing so is based on instructions from the federal government other than in cases of serious crimes or convictions. Another new law makes it illegal for employers to retaliate against employees because of their immigration status. Finally, illegal immigrants are now eligible to apply for and obtain California driver's licenses. The article went on to state that there are an estimated 2.6 million illegal immigrants currently living in California.
