Awarded to Women Seeking to Advance Their Education in Traditionally Male-Dominated Industries

(firmenpresse) - CHICAGO, IL -- (Marketwired) -- 10/16/13 -- Coyne College, a leader in education and training for HVAC & Refrigeration, Electrical Construction and Maintenance, Electrical Construction and Planning, Pharmacy Technician, Medical Assisting, Medical Billing/Coding and Physical Therapist Aide, is pleased to announce that two of its students have received Women in the Trades (WITT) scholarships. Giselle Gomez and Veleska Novorolsky, who are students in Coyne College's Electrical Construction and Planning degree program, each received $1,500. WITT scholarships are awarded to women seeking to advance their education in traditionally male-dominated industries. The scholarships were introduced this year by The Dwyer Group®, a holding company with more than 1,500 franchises offering household services and repairs in 10 countries.

"We congratulate Giselle and Veleska on their scholarship awards," said Russell Freeman, President of Coyne College. "We would also like to recognize our instructor Virginia Hanson, who has taken an active role in working with our female students and assisted Giselle and Veleska in securing their scholarships. Virginia's efforts are another example of how Coyne College goes the extra mile to help ensure the success of our students in their chosen fields."

WITT scholarships are awarded each semester to women who aspire to excel within industry professions like plumbing, air conditioner and appliance service and repair, landscape management, and more. The provided funds are designated for attaining all necessary training and certification to assist these women in furthering their career goals and forging a path in the trade industries.

The U.S. Department of Labor reports that women have been making gains in the construction industry by nearly tripling their numbers in the last 40 years, but they still only accounted for 13 percent of the total construction workforce in 2009, up from 12 percent in 1984.

Coyne College has more than 110 years of experience in educating and preparing students for brighter futures through hands-on, dedicated career training. Located on two campuses in downtown Chicago, Coyne offers individualized instruction, flexible class schedules and large, furnished labs. Coyne offers diploma and associate degree programs in a variety of fields including Heating, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration, Electrical/Electronics, and HealthCare.
