Minister Oliver Promotes Energy Cooperation with South Korea
(firmenpresse) - SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA -- (Marketwired) -- 10/14/13 -- The Honourable Joe Oliver, Canada's Minister of Natural Resources, today began his economic mission to South Korea, where he delivered remarks at the Canada-Korea Energy Dialogue to reinforce Canada's role as a secure, responsible energy supplier and Canada's strategic imperative to diversify its energy markets.
"Canada is proud of its strong relationship with South Korea, politically, socially and economically," said Minister Oliver. "Now, more than ever, Canada stands to benefit significantly from reaching new energy markets with our longstanding trade partners in the Asia-Pacific."
South Korea is the second-largest importer of liquefied natural gas (LNG) in the world. Canada is fortunate to have up to 37 trillion cubic metres of natural gas resources - representing over 200 years of production at current rates. The Minister promoted Canada as an ideal destination for further South Korean investment.
Minister Oliver also met with his provincial counterparts from British Columbia, Alberta and Quebec to discuss priorities for their visits.
On Wednesday, October 16, Minister Oliver will participate in the World Energy Congress and meet with senior industry representatives to promote Canada as a secure supplier of energy, particularly liquefied natural gas, to Asia.
"Our government is working hard internationally and at home to reach new markets for our natural resources," said Minister Oliver. "Partnerships with the fastest-growing energy markets in the world hold enormous potential, and we are determined to seize this economic opportunity for the future benefit of all Canadians."
