Neopost Welcomes Royal Mail Consultation on Small Parcels
(firmenpresse) - ROMFORD, UNITED KINGDOM -- (Marketwired) -- 10/02/13 -- The news that Royal Mail might revise its small parcels category to include parcels the size of a large shoebox will be welcomed by consumers, e-retailers and the growing army of eBayers, claims a leading solutions provider in the postal and related digital communications industry.
Following feedback from large mailers, merchants and customers, Royal Mail is considering a proposal to expand the Small Parcels category to include items up to 350 x 250 x 160mm in size as long as they do not exceed the existing 2kg weight restriction.
The cheaper tariff currently applies to items measuring no more than 450 x 350 x 80mm, with a few exceptions for tubes and small cubes.
The new dimensions are being proposed as an addition to existing formats and will enable consumers and businesses to send a much greater range of goods as Small Parcels, including clothing and electrical equipment.
Royal Mail says that if the change is approved, more than 80% of the parcels it delivers will be classified as
David Beirne, Royal Mail Products and Service Manager at Neopost, said: "This proposal is really good news for Royal Mail customers. Its Small Parcels category offers great value for money, especially for non-urgent parcels that can be sent Second Class. By expanding the range of items that qualify as a Small Parcel, Royal Mail will enable its customers to save even more on their postage."
Analysis by Neopost shows that it costs GBP 2.60 to buy a Royal Mail second class stamp for a small parcel weighing less than 1kg, with delivery in 2-3 days. The same parcel costs GBP 4.89 to send Economy with Collect Plus (3-5 day delivery) and GBP 4.20 to send with My Hermes (2-3 day delivery)(i). Discounts for franking machine customers bring total savings to more than 50%.
David Beirne added: "Depending on the results of its consultation, Royal Mail could introduce these changes, in time for the Christmas rush, giving customers an early present. Even if it decides to keep qualifying formats as they are, its Small Parcels tariff will frequently be much the cheapest option, especially for franking machine users. The discounts they enjoy on Royal Mail tariffs are so great that a franking machine will quickly pay for itself even if you send just a few parcels a day."
