Staff at Courtyard Raleigh Crabtree Valley Donates Time and Effort to Several Charitable Causes

(firmenpresse) - RALEIGH, NC -- (Marketwired) -- 10/01/13 -- Giving back is an important part of the mantra at the Courtyard Raleigh Crabtree Valley. This year, the supported Autism Speaks; the city's Adopt a Stream Program; and collected donated coats and sweaters for One Warm Coat.

In addition to upping its community involvement as a whole, the hotel near RDU Airport also asked each department to choose a charity that was near and dear to its heart, and the results have made an impact both there and abroad.

The housekeeping department at the adopted Clean the World, a charity that looks to make an impact in third-world countries by promoting sanitation and disease reduction through cleanliness. Housekeepers gather all used soap and remaining shampoo and conditioner bottles, and send them to the program, who recycles them and produces new bars of soap to be delivered to numerous countries. "Not only are we helping a great cause," says Rachael Pair / Hotel General Manager, "but we also are reducing and diverting waste to landfills."

The front-desk staff are avid animal lovers and pet owners, and wanted to find a creative way to help the SPCA of Wake and Durham counties. After brainstorming, they realized that the unused newspapers that are thrown out daily would be useful to the organization to line cages and crates, and save them on costs for liners. In addition, the worn towels and sheets that are no longer guest appropriate have aided in creating comfort for the animals, and the team also discovered that used prescription bottles could be used for the organization to send home medication without having the expense of buying new ones.

It's only fitting that the food and beverage department set their sights on Shepard's Table Soup Kitchen. Often times inventory for the hotel's dining outlets passes the expiration date, making it unsellable to hotel guests but still edible (and delicious). From fruits and vegetables to milk and bread, the items are used to feed the homeless and less fortunate. In addition to preparing the meals, the hotel staff also serves patrons and cleans the dining hall after the meal.

"It is such a reward to see how much of an impact we could make in a day by creating a full, balanced and sophisticated meal," Ms. Pair says. "We served approximately 300 in 1 hour, and it gets better each time."
