People Afflicted With Ringing Ears Find Relief With Soft Sound Therapy Tones That Reduce Perception of Tinnitus

ID: 1268408

(firmenpresse) - SAN JOSE, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 10/01/13 -- By the time Jeff Haduck of Hellertown, PA sought treatment for his tinnitus, the ringing in his ears was as loud as a lawnmower.

"On a scale of one to 10, my tinnitus was definitely a 10," Haduck, a construction worker and former army flight line technician recalls. "It made life terrible hearing the noise all the time. My ears were always ringing. Even sitting on the beach, my tinnitus was louder than the ocean waves. I hadn't had a quiet night in 25 years."

Haduck was fitted with a sound therapy device called Serenade and experienced relief within a short time.

"I noticed a week after using Serenade my tinnitus began to subside and it got progressively softer," Haduck said. "It has brought down my tinnitus in everyday life to a lower level. I do have moments when my ears will ring a bit but it's been a godsend for me. The more I use it the better it works."

Haduck is among the 50 million Americans affected by tinnitus. The condition has become multi-generational, touching the lives of aging baby boomers and now young adults who are continuously plugged into music played at high volume.

Roughly two million people have tinnitus severely enough to seek medical attention. to help reduce the sound burden of tinnitus can help people live normal lives. Many find sound therapy, including white noise and ocean sounds soothing and relaxing.

Advancements in sound therapy such as SoundCure Serenade have helped a fast growing number of patients across the U.S. and the U.K. Serenade's signature feature, S-Tones® are soft tones, pitch-matched to the person's tinnitus sound and modulated at a rate that has been specifically chosen to stimulate neural activity in the brain. Researchers suggest that Serenade's S-Tones have the effect of refocusing the brain and interrupting the perception of tinnitus.

Philip James of the U.K. has also suffered from tinnitus since 2007, hearing a sound like a loud kettle boiling 90 percent of the time. He too has had success with Serenade.

"I started using the Serenade for four hours a day and after three weeks the noise level dropped to about 40 percent but the tinnitus continued," James said. "Within the last four months the noise level has steadily decreased to the point where I have not had to use Serenade at all. I still hear the tinnitus but it is at a level that does not bother me."

With Serenade's approach the tinnitus perception may or may not go away quickly, but the hope is that it will go away over time through a process known as habituation, which creates increasing windows of time where a patient does not notice his tinnitus at all, and when he might, it is much less bothersome. This comes from correcting the over-perception of tinnitus and the habit of focusing on it.
