Breakthrough for Telescopes Creates Jobs for BC Company
Astronomers Eager to See Dramatically Farther and Clearer Into the Cosmos
(firmenpresse) - PORT COQUITLAM, BRITISH COLUMBIA -- (Marketwired) -- 09/27/13 -- A game-changing technology to help more astronomers make discoveries was unveiled today at Dynamic Structures Ltd.
"Universities dream of having an observatory. This new generation of telescopes makes it even more financially feasible to build them," explains Guy Nelson, CEO, Empire Industries and Dynamic Structures. "Expect more discoveries about our solar system, our galaxy and the universe."
The international demand for large telescopes and amusement rides, the company's other area of expertise, has resulted in a doubling of its workforce. Dynamic Structures largest growth region is Asia.
"Canadian access to growing markets in Asia presents great opportunities for technology enterprises," said the Hon. James Moore, Member of Parliament for Port Moody-Westwood-Port Coquitlam, and federal Minister of Industry, who operated a robot to launch the new technology. "Canadians are brilliant innovators, and I am pleased to see that Dynamic Structures' success has led to the creation of more high-quality jobs for British Columbians and for our community."
Traditional telescopes require extremely heavy mirrors supported by bulky observatories. Using robots and the company's new optical technology, Dynamic Structures will be able to mass produce light-weight mirrors able to clearly see distances of millions, even billions of light years.
In addition, the expertise the company developed working in the telescope field continues to be translated into other commercial ventures, most particularly the design and fabrication of amusement park rides. An order backlog of over $100 million worth of such rides to be exported to the U.S., China and elsewhere also necessitated the company's physical expansion and employment growth.
