Canadian Forces National Investigation Service Lays Drug-Related Charges Against Nurse in Edmonton
(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwired) -- 09/27/13 -- Yesterday, a public service primary care nurse was arrested and charged with drug-related offences as part of an investigation by the Canadian Forces National Investigation Service (CFNIS) National Drug Enforcement Team (NDET) into illegal steroid trafficking.
Following a thorough investigation, Helene Bouchard, a civilian nurse, at 3rd Canadian Division Support Base Edmonton was charged with four counts of Trafficking of a controlled substance pursuant to section 5(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA).
Ms. Bouchard was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in the Edmonton Law Courts on 6 November 2013.
"This incident confirms the commitment of the military police to support the Canadian Armed Forces, and our local communities, by providing a safe and drug-free environment in which to live and work," stated Lieutenant Colonel Brian Frei, Commanding Officer of the CFNIS. "With our national approach to drug enforcement, we assist commanders in maintaining high standards of conduct and discipline. It also sends a clear message that illicit drug use will not be tolerated in the Department of National Defence (DND)."
The CFNIS NDET's mission is to counter drug use throughout the Canadian Armed Forces and the Department of National Defence by identifying, investigating and prosecuting persons engaged in the importation, cultivation, production, trafficking and use of illicit drugs in order to assist commanders in the maintenance of operationally ready, combat-capable forces.
The CFNIS is a specialized unit within the independent Canadian Forces Military Police Group. Its mandate is to investigate serious and sensitive matters relating to Canadian Armed Forces personnel anywhere in the world, and offences that occur in, on or about defence establishments.
