Innovative control algorithm simplifies the implementation of energy-efficient applications
41 new RX63T MCUs with integrated PWM delay generation function and a digital power management control function
(PresseBox) - MSC now offers 41 new products in the RX63T Group of microcontrollers (MCUs) from Renesas Electronics. The new MCUs feature an integrated pulse width modulation (PWM) delay generation function and a digital power management control function.
The new PWM delay generation function enables high-precision adjustment of the PWM output signal in increments as small as 312.5 picoseconds. When combined with a high CPU clock frequency of 100 MHz, this allows even more precise and further optimized power control of converters and inverters.
Implementing the control algorithm required by the digital power supply in hardware not only enables the use of faster switching frequencies up to a maximum of 1.85 MHz, but also a more compact system structure. The robust control algorithm automatically compensates for inconsistency in the characteristics of the individual elements in the customer's system. This eliminates the need for system designers to perform tuning after mounting the power supply ICs and thus results in a dramatic reduction of man-hours.
Through implementation of the functions described above, the powerful processing capabilities of the 32-bit RX core can be applied to the main processing routine (for example, motor/inverter control) while DC/DC power management control takes place simultaneously.
For an easy start to development, MSC offers a special RX63T starter kit from Renesas Electronics. The low-cost E1 Emulator (which also functions as a flash programmer) and the high-functionality E20 Emulator (which includes trace, RAM monitoring and other advanced functions) are available for debugging purposes. Third party J-Link debuggers are also available.
