The Vanquish system, recently approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, was originally developed in the Czech Republic and is able to target fat cells utilizing selective radio-frequency (RF) electromagnetic energy. According to Dr. Hunt, Vanquish can "reduce pockets of fat in patients' entire abdomen area, including the flanks (love handles), in just one treatment" without ever making physical contact with the patient's body. Instead, "the thermal energy delivered by the device is absorbed by the body," causing the targeted fat cells to be destroyed and then removed from the body through its natural processes.
Vanquish is able to cover a much larger treatment area compared to other non-surgical fat reduction techniques. Dr. Hunt says it is designed to be safe, well-tolerated, and to have zero downtime. The Vanquish system produces a sensation similar to a heating pad and never touches the patient's skin. Typically with four 30-minute sessions spread over the course of one month, patients can lose one dress or pant size the following month -- though Dr. Hunt says the initial results of the procedure can usually be seen after the first or second session. According to Dr. Hunt, BTL Aesthetics is currently working on more treatment heads for the Vanquish system to optimize results on other body areas of concern such as the thighs and arms.
