'From Cradle to Rocker' Theme of Second Annual 'Clinical Research in Georgia' Conference Set for December 4th, 2013

(firmenpresse) - ATLANTA, GA -- (Marketwired) -- 09/20/13 -- The second annual Clinical Research in Georgia Conference will revolve around the theme, "From Cradle to Rocker," it was announced today. The Conference will spotlight innovations that impact different stages of life, from pediatrics to middle age to senior care.

Planned topics for the Conference focus on areas where Georgia has excellent expertise and include pediatric medical devices, mobility and medical device security. The Conference will be held on December 4th, 2013, at the Academy of Medicine in the heart of midtown Atlanta.

"We are very excited about the breadth of topics we will be able to cover, and the exciting developments taking place in Georgia that will be highlighted at the Conference," said Conference Chair James Weyhenmeyer, PhD, Vice President for Research and Economic Development at Georgia State University. "Attendees will learn firsthand how research being conducted at leading Georgia institutions may end up benefitting them, their children and their grandchildren."

Serving as vice chairs of the Conference are Ravi Bellamkonda, PhD, Wallace H. Coulter Professor and Departmental Chair in Biomedical Engineering for Georgia Tech/Emory, and Wilbur Lam, MD, PhD, Assistant Professor, Department of Pediatrics, Emory University School of Medicine. The two vice chairs are noted translational researchers with an excellent overview of emerging technology from leading Georgia institutions.

The inaugural 2012 Conference substantially exceeded attendance goals, with more than 200 people registered. The conference provides valuable information for those involved with research while also raising national awareness of Georgia as a highly desirable site to conduct clinical trials. The conference is presented by the Metro Atlanta Chamber in association with the Georgia Department of Economic Development and several founding partners, including Atlanta Clinical & Translational Science Institute, Georgia Bio, the Georgia Research Alliance and the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia.
