Minister of Health Highlights Importance of Health Collaboration with the United States
(firmenpresse) - WASHINGTON, DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA -- (Marketwired) -- 09/20/13 -- The Honorable Rona Ambrose, Minister of Health, met yesterday with key US partners to highlight the importance of continued collaboration on health issues.
While in Washington, Minister Ambrose met with Kathleen Sebelius, Secretary of Health and Human Services and with Dr. Carissa Etienne, the new Director of the Pan-American Health Organization (PAHO).
"Canada has a long history of working closely with the United States," said Minister Ambrose. "I was pleased to meet with Secretary Sebelius to discuss areas of common interest and to forge a strong working relationship."
Canada's bilateral engagement with the United States on health issues is far-reaching and covers a wide range of areas. The Minister focused her discussion with Secretary Sebelius on shared priorities including family violence, healthcare innovation, health promotion and regulatory cooperation.
"I am pleased to have also had the opportunity to meet with Dr. Etienne so soon in her tenure," said Minister Ambrose. "Our Government is committed to working with our international partners to improve the health of Canadians at home and abroad."
PAHO is a key partner for Canada in pursuing its strategic health objectives for the Americas. The Minister focused her discussion with Dr. Etienne on enhancing health security, infectious disease prevention and control, strengthening health systems and improved governance and accountability.
These early meetings signal Canada's continued commitment to addressing shared opportunities in health.
