Harper Government Supports Beakerhead Creative Society's Efforts to Increase Innovation and Collaboration
(firmenpresse) - CALGARY, ALBERTA -- (Marketwired) -- 09/13/13 -- The Beakerhead Creative Society received a programming boost today, thanks to federal funding announced by the Honourable Michelle Rempel, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification.
"Our Government recognizes that knowledge, innovation, and scientific discoveries are the engines of economic growth, job creation and long-term prosperity," said Minister Rempel. "That's why we are proud to support the Beakerhead Creative Society's efforts to encourage collaboration between technical and creative communities."
The federal investment of $1,389,000, through the Western Diversification Program (WDP), will support Beakerhead Creative Society's programs and annual festival. With this funding, the Beakerhead Creative Society will build cross-disciplinary networks of entrepreneurs, tradespeople, engineers, scientists and artists who share knowledge and seek viable solutions to scientific and engineering challenges.
"Beakerhead is an opportunity for all of us, in a country built on creativity and engineering, to stage some spectacular entertainment and spark cool ideas in the process," said Mary Anne Moser, one of the Beakerhead's co-founders. "Yes, it feels like pure fun. But we're quite serious at Beakerhead about the positive impact of bringing the creative and rational sides together to solve many of the issues we are facing."
Through Beakerhead's events and year-round programming opportunities, participants will be encouraged to pursue creative and entrepreneurial interests, international science and technology networks will be fostered, and western Canadian talent will be showcased.
Since 2006, the Harper Government, through WD, has invested in job-creating small- and medium-sized businesses, aerospace, marine and defence industries, and supported innovative entrepreneurs in pursuing emerging markets. By continuing to promote new economic opportunities, WD is helping to create jobs, economic growth, and long-term prosperity.
