(firmenpresse) - COLUMBUS, GA -- (Marketwired) -- 09/11/13 -- Correctional Healthcare Companies (CHC), the largest medical services provider to county jails in the country, was selected by Muscogee County to fulfill their mandated need for inmate healthcare. "CHC offers a dynamic range of not only medical, but comprehensive mental and behavioral solutions to correctional health services," said Doug Goetz, CEO of CHC. "The jail is also near Fort Benning and we pride ourselves on understanding military health issues and our healthcare personnel have the specialized experience, training and targeted programs to deal with incarcerated military or vets." Goetz continued, "One of the deciding factors behind the final choice was that CHC was the only inmate healthcare provider offering continuity of correctional care, from pre to post-custody, supported by our ground-breaking methods and expertise."

"Their broad jail experience created a distinct comfort level for the selection committee", said Paul Morris, Health Services Administrator for Muscogee County Jail. "With their primary, behavioral healthcare model, MRT, (Moral Reconation Therapy) which reduces violence and offender recidivism, plus their specialized military and veteran protocols, Muscogee County decided that CHC offered comprehensive solutions to our needs."

The Muscogee County Jail consists of 2 facilities, a 1,100 bed jail and a 550 inmate county prison. It sits in close proximity to Fort Benning, a major U.S. Army base with 27,500 active duty soldiers, and that presents some particular issues when those in the military get put in jail. In order to address these military challenges, Muscogee County offers model programs like a separate Veteran's wing and MRT behavior change curriculum approved by the VA for military applications. CHC will now be called upon to bolster and expand the incarcerated Veterans programs.

To win a contract like this, CHC had to focus on past success and the ever-changing correctional healthcare industry. "All in all, it took a dedicated, tireless team of 25 CHC staff to organize, research, budget, write and orally present the proposal to the county to show what we could do better than the competition," offered Mack Weathers, National Director, Business Development for CHC. "Our people are the best in the business and believe in our motto Healing for Change. We look forward to a dynamic partnership with Muscogee County and their modern, well-run facility."

Mr. Morris summed up their decision to select CHC, "They brought us a realistic proposal that was fair and reasonable...and have a proven success rate with like-sized jails." The County made a concerted effort to choose a healthcare provider that might also help some inmates get out of the system and become part of the community. "We are truly trying to help and service the community, not just run a jail. CHC, with their extensive medical expertise combined with their behavioral programs, is just what we were looking for!" The new contract officially starts on Oct. 1, 2013.

CHC is a national leader in inmate healthcare services management, providing comprehensive medical, dental, behavioral and pharmaceutical solutions, state-of-the-art service, and uncompromised value to their clients for 21 years. CHC currently serves 250 correctional facilities throughout the United States and supports the provision of medical services to more than 70,000 detainees daily. Headquartered in Greenwood Village, Colorado, CHC oversees more than 2,700 employees and contractors across the country. For more information call: (866) 246-5245, email: or visit
