Swinerton Breaks Ground on New Fire Science and EMT Training Facility
Repeat Partners Swinerton Builders and San Diego Community College District Celebrated Groundbreaking Today on a New Facility to Train Future First Responders at the San Diego Miramar College Campus
(firmenpresse) - SAN DIEGO, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 09/11/13 -- As the nation marked the anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks, honored the sacrifice of first responders while celebrating the start of construction on a new facility to train future firefighters and emergency medical technicians (EMTs). The San Diego County Firefighters Pipes and Drums performed "Amazing Grace" in tribute, and participants wielded gleaming shovels and donned fire helmets for a ceremonial turning of the ground. Speakers at the event included representatives from the and its campus, as well as leaders from the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department, CAL FIRE, and the California Rural/Metro ambulance service.
The new facility will consist of a 27,000-square-foot "minicampus" for firefighting and EMT students. Spread among three separate buildings, it will feature classrooms, administration space, a simulated command center, a fire truck bay, a four-story drill tower, a courtyard, and an area for recruit drills and physical fitness training. Designed for LEED® Silver certification by architect -- another long-time partner of Swinerton -- the project will incorporate sustainable elements like natural ventilation, daylighting, and recycled water usage. Miramar College plans to open the facility to students in the fall of 2014.
