Three Removals from "Wanted by the CBSA" List
(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwired) -- 09/11/13 -- The Honourable Steven Blaney, Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, issued the following statement today after Canada Border Services Agency announced the removals of Joleen Kelly Patterson, Clive Moore, and Luis Fernando Rodriguez Hurtado. All three had appeared on the "Wanted by the CBSA" list, and were arrested by the Toronto Immigration Task Force, comprised of CBSA and RCMP officers.
"I applaud CBSA and RCMP officers for their vigilance and their ongoing efforts to apprehend and remove individuals whose actions threaten the safety and security of Canadians. Our Government is proud to be protecting Canadians by removing criminals who try to live here illegally. We will continue to ensure law enforcement has the tools it needs to keep our communities safe."
Patterson was removed from Canada on August 13th, following her arrest in June. She was convicted of importing a narcotic substance and is inadmissible to Canada for serious criminality.
Moore was arrested in July and was removed on August 31st. He is inadmissible to Canada for committing offences outside of Canada that, if committed in Canada, would constitute Canadian offences. He has convictions in the United States for trafficking narcotics, burglary, trespass, and larceny.
Rodriguez Hurtado was arrested in August following a tip from the public, and was removed on September 5th. He is inadmissible to Canada for having been convicted of an offence outside of Canada that, if committed in Canada, would constitute an offence under Canadian law. He has multiple convictions in New York State, including interference with commerce by threats or violence (conspiracy to commit robbery); carrying and possessing a firearm during the commission of a crime of violence; and attempted conspiracy.
As a result of the "Wanted by the CBSA" program, 46 individuals have been apprehended in Canada to date, of which 39 have been removed. Additionally, nine individuals were located abroad.
