Study Shows Major Breakthrough in Reduction or Elimination of Carcinogens and other By-Products Commonly Generated During Water Chlorination
- Cerapem(TM) water disinfection technology shown to produce a form of chlorine that is healthier and more environmentally friendly - Major reduction or elimination of carcinogens including Trihalomethanes (THM's) and Bromate produced during water chlorination process - Cerapem(TM) solution compliant to rigorous European THM standards Significant potential in drinking water applications, food disinfection and industrial water applications.
(firmenpresse) - PARIS, FRANCE -- (Marketwired) -- 09/10/13 -- CeramHyd S.A has recently completed a lengthy study indicating a major breakthrough in the reduction or elimination of by-products generated in the water chlorination process. The results have been independently verified by accredited European laboratories.
Commonly used water disinfection processes include use of chlorine gas or sodium hypochlorite which can generate carcinogens such as Trihalomethanes (THM's) when water has even low levels of organic content. This is a serious problem for some cities and towns during the summer months, in food disinfection and a host of other water disinfection applications. Current alternative approaches are partially effective and costly to implement which led CeramHyd to develop a better solution.
"The Cerapem™ membrane produces a form of chlorine known as Hypochlorous Acid which is really what every other form of chlorine produces indirectly", said Dr. Tarek Nassar, CeramHyd S.A Chief Innovation Officer, "the combination of a very fast disinfection response combined with the elimination of other complex chemical reactions, results in much better water quality where dangerous by-products are much reduced or eliminated."
Cerapem™ is a highly durable and flexible ceramic membrane that looks and feels like a plastic sheet and is the result of highly advanced materials science by CeramHyd S.A. The membrane is installed in an electrochemical unit that produces the Hypochlorous Acid from ordinary table salt and water. It is well known that Hypochlorous Acid is a more effective form of chlorine but it has previously been expensive and technically complex to produce.
"We are very pleased with the results coming out of our ongoing studies" said Martin J. Hauschild, CeramHyd CEO. "Our unique solution to water disinfection is already more cost effective and operationally safer than other forms of disinfection and it is exciting to see these results showing major environmental, health and safety benefits. We look forward to working with our clients and partners to build on this success going forward."
