Entries are judged on solution-driven design, classical beauty, sustainability and innovative use of windows. This year's competition adds a new feature -- the first-ever , a head-to-head competition that put all of the 150 submissions up for a public vote to determine "the people's choice."

The judges of the 2013 Marvin Architect's Challenge are William J. Devereaux Jr., president of Devereaux & Associates; Mark Scheurer, AIA, founding principal of Mark Scheurer Architect Inc.; and David Furman, FAIA, partner at Axiom Architecture.
After nearly 140,000 votes were cast, David Hart of the HL Turner Group in Concord, New Hampshire, was crowned the winner of the first annual Architect's Challenge Showdown. , in a rural neighborhood in Concord, is a multi-generational, aging-in-place house that demonstrates how a zero net energy, sustainable residence can be built within a reasonable budget.
