Harper Government Invests in Improvements to Duncan's Community Infrastructure
(firmenpresse) - DUNCAN, BRITISH COLUMBIA -- (Marketwired) -- 08/28/13 -- Today, the Honourable John Duncan, Minister of State and Chief Government Whip and Member of Parliament for Vancouver Island North, on behalf of the Honourable Michelle Rempel, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced support for a project benefitting the City of Duncan under the Harper Government's Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF).
"Our Government is committed to creating jobs, growth and long-term prosperity in our communities across Canada," said Minister Duncan. "By making investments in local infrastructure like this project in Duncan, we are helping boost economic activity and maintain a high quality of life for Canadians."
The Harper Government's investment of $157,000 will modernize the infrastructure at Duncan Rotary Park with upgrades such as new lighting and irrigation systems, perimeter fencing and bridges, and construction of various sports-related structures.
"Part of Council's Strategic Plan vision is for Duncan to be a safe and healthy place to live," says Mayor Phil Kent. "Revitalization of the surface of the ageing playing field and upgraded lighting for sports groups, as well as replacement of the two narrow pedestrian bridges to accommodate mobility aids and stroller access, is an example of Council's commitment to this vision. The City is looking forward to the completion of these improvements that will enhance the use of this first class urban park facility and foster the health and well-being of our region."
In Economic Action Plan 2012, the Harper Government announced further support to help communities across the country modernize their infrastructure. Our Government committed $150 million over two years for the Fund. The Fund supports projects that look to improve existing community infrastructure accessible for use by the public, such as community centres, recreational buildings, local arenas, cultural and other community facilities.
Since 2006, the Harper Government, through WD, has invested in job-creating small- and medium-sized businesses, aerospace, marine and defence industries, and supported innovative entrepreneurs in pursuing emerging markets. By continuing to promote new economic opportunities, WD is helping to create jobs, economic growth, and long-term prosperity.
