(firmenpresse) - ETOBICOKE, ONTARIO -- (Marketwired) -- 08/27/13 -- The Honourable Tony Clement, President of the Treasury Board, spoke to the Slovenian-Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Etobicoke today to promote government measures to reduce red tape for businesses, keep taxes low, and create jobs, growth and long-term prosperity.

"Cutting red tape and making the regulatory process as pain-free as possible is one of the most important initiatives government can do to help business thrive, particularly during a time of global economic uncertainty," said Minister Clement.

The Government of Canada's Red Tape Reduction Action Plan has saved Canadian businesses millions in administrative costs by eliminating unnecessary and time-consuming red tape in areas ranging from tax and payroll to labour, transport and trade. Launched last October, the Plan also introduces time-saving measures like single windows and electronic submissions.

The Government is also helping Canadian manufacturers and businesses succeed in the global economy by enhancing the conditions for investment and job creation.

"Our Economic Action Plan 2013 underscores our top priority of creating jobs, growth, and long-term prosperity while keeping taxes low for families and businesses, and balancing the budget by 2015," added Minister Clement. "Our plan includes a commitment to addressing Canada's skills shortage, which is a significant impediment to growth and competitiveness."

The Canada Job Grant program will provide up to $15,000 to help people get the skills training they need for the jobs that businesses need filled. At the same time, Economic Action Plan 2013 provides for $1.4 billion in tax credits for Canadian manufacturers to invest in new machinery and equipment as part of a renewed accelerated capital cost allowance.
