Government of Canada Invests in Maintenance of Aircraft Serving Canada's North

(firmenpresse) - SUMMERSIDE, PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND -- (Marketwired) -- 08/27/13 -- Today, the Honourable Gail Shea, P.C., M.P. for Egmont, Minister of Fisheries and Oceans, on behalf of the Honourable Rob Nicholson, P.C., Q.C., M.P. for Niagara Falls, Minister of National Defence, announced the awarding of a significant contract that will help sustain jobs in Prince Edward Island and maintain Canadian Armed Forces' fleet of CC-138 Twin Otter aircraft.

Vector Aerospace Engine Services - Atlantic of Summerside, Prince Edward Island, has been awarded a contract valued at more than $1 million for repair and maintenance on the CC-138 Twin Otters' engines. This contract, ending March 31, 2016, also includes seven one-year extension options, which could increase the value of the contract to a maximum of $7.9 million over a 10-year period. The contract was awarded following a competitive process.

"This contract further demonstrates the Government's commitment to ensuring the men and women of our Canadian Armed Forces have the equipment necessary to do their jobs," said Minister Shea. "As this aircraft fleet is vital to supporting important work in Canada's North, today's announcement also contributes to making certain our Canadian Armed Forces have the capability to provide support for future safety and security challenges in the Arctic."

The work covered by the contract consists of complete repair and overhaul of the Twin Otters' Pratt & Whitney PT6A-27 turboprop aerospace engines, associated components and accessories, including technical investigation and engineering support, and publication revision services.

"Our team has the diverse capability to accommodate the Canadian Armed Forces specific repair and overhaul requirements for their P&WC PT6A-27 engines, and the detailed product knowledge and experience to meet their expectations."





The Canadian Armed Forces have a fleet of four CC-138 Twin Otter aircraft, based in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, that are used in support of operations in Canada's North.
