Minister Clement Touts Leaner More Efficient Public Service to Mississauga Business Leaders

ID: 1258262

(firmenpresse) - MISSISSAUGA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwired) -- 08/27/13 -- The Honourable Tony Clement, President of the Treasury Board, spoke to business leaders in Mississauga today, highlighting Government measures to deliver more cost effective and efficient service to Canadians.

"Canadian taxpayers expect value for their money when it comes to Government services and our Government is ensuring those expectations are being met," said Minister Clement. "We're eliminating waste and duplication, streamlining back office operations and modernizing the way we manage the public service."

Minister Clement has unveiled ambitious plans to overhaul the Government's outdated sick-leave system as well as introduce a rigorous system for tracking employee performance. These measures, aimed at boosting productivity and lowering costs, follow historic pension reforms and the elimination of voluntary severance in the public service that are delivering significant savings.

The Government also continues to find new ways to modernize and consolidate its operations; using videoconferencing to reduce travel expenses and moving to epublishing to minimize printing costs. The Government also expects to save more than $50 million annually by replacing 63 separate email systems spread across 43 departments with a single, secure email platform.

"We have been taking a fine-tooth comb to departmental operations, looking for ways to eliminate overlap and employ technology to deliver better service more cost effectively," said Minister Clement.

As part of Economic Action Plan 2012, the Government committed to finding over $5.2 billion in ongoing departmental savings and reductions in federal employment by 19,200.
