(firmenpresse) - CHRISTINA LAKE, BRITISH COLUMBIA -- (Marketwired) -- 08/21/13 -- Today, the Honourable John Duncan, Minister of State and Chief Government Whip and Member of Parliament for Vancouver Island North, on behalf of the Honourable Michelle Rempel, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced support for three projects for the Regional District of Kootenay Boundary under the Harper Government's Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF).

"Our Government is pleased to invest in the Grand Forks area by supporting these projects," said Minister Duncan. "Families and communities across the region will benefit from our investments, which will boost economic activity, and leave a lasting legacy of modernized community facilities."

The Harper Government invested over $42,000 to upgrade the Christina Lake Lawn Bowling Green, the Grand Forks Curling Rink, and the Grand Forks & Area Aquatic Centre. An investment of $10,525 enhanced the lawn bowling facility with an outdoor fitness park; the Grand Forks Curling Rink received $24,800 to increase the accessibility of the facility with a new wheelchair lift; and an additional $7,610 was provided to modernize the Grand Forks & Area Aquatic Centre with new electrical panels and circuit breakers.

"We are pleased to partner with the Federal Government's Economic Action Plan on these three projects," said John Mackey, Director of Recreation and Facilities for the Regional District of Kootenay Boundary. "Each of these projects will enhance and promote active and inclusive living in our communities. Fitness, health and accessibility help build the sustainable communities our citizens all desire."

In Economic Action Plan 2012, the Harper Government announced further support to help communities across the country modernize their infrastructure. Our Government committed $150 million over two years for the Fund. The Fund supports projects that look to improve existing community infrastructure accessible for use by the public, such as community centres, recreational buildings, local arenas, cultural and other community facilities.
