Meritage Announces Grand Opening of Freighters Eatery & Taproom and the DoubleTree by Hilton
(firmenpresse) - GRAND RAPIDS, MI -- (Marketwired) -- 08/21/13 -- Meritage Hospitality Group Inc. (OTCQX: MHGU), one of the nation's premier restaurant operators, today announced the grand opening of the 300 seat Freighters Eatery & Taproom, a proprietary restaurant concept in Port Huron, Michigan.
Located on the St. Clair River at the base of Lake Huron, the full service restaurant serves as an integral part of the new $24.0 million DoubleTree by Hilton, Blue Water Area Convention Center and Baker College Culinary Institute. The development was co-sponsored by Meritage and Orion Construction in a public/private partnership involving the City of Port Huron, St. Clair County, private investors and Baker College.
"Our new restaurant is named in honor of its prominent location on one of the world's busiest waterways and serves as the centerpiece for the project adjoining the new DoubleTree by Hilton and the Blue Water Area Convention Center. "The unique resort nature of this waterfront property represents a significant restaurant, banquet and catering opportunity for the Company," stated Robert E. Schermer, Jr., Chief Executive Officer for Meritage. The restaurant offers one of a kind views and is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner daily. The Freighters Taproom features twelve taps serving primarily Michigan handcrafted brews.
The project has a new, dedicated exit ramp from Interstate 69 providing direct access to the property for guests traveling between the U.S. and Canada.
The DoubleTree by Hilton, Freighters Eatery & Taproom and Baker Culinary College are now all open to the public. The Blue Water Area Convention Center, attached to the hotel, is scheduled to be completed within eighteen months. Meritage and Orion Construction, both from Grand Rapids, Michigan, were co-developers of the project.
